Who we are

Established in 1987, the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) is the UK’s national membership organisation for health and medical research charities.

Our vision

The AMRC will be the leading voice of the health and medical research charity sector, supporting charities to deliver high-quality research and champion impact for patient and public benefit.

Our mission

The AMRC brings together and supports health and medical charities to produce high-quality research. We do this by influencing policy and research, and highlighting the sector’s contribution to patient and public health.

Our strategy

As part of our 2016-19 strategic plan,  we consulted with members and developed five strategic objectives. These are to:

1. Provide leadership and future focus
   We’re at the forefront of healthcare policy and research field. We share information and guidance on future trends and developments.
   
   
2. Emphasise the benefits of patient-centric research
   We work with our members and the life sciences ecosystem to ensure that patients’ views are at the heart of research.
   
   
3. Demonstrate impact
   We encourage and support best practice by providing independent data that allows members to benchmark their results and measure their impact.
   
   
4. Encourage innovative partnerships 
   We facilitate new collaborations and partnerships between our members and other funders, including industry, to maximise resources and results.
   
   
5. Campaign for a supportive funding environment 
   We’re working to ensure the best possible environment for health and medical research charities in the UK.

AMRC members support over one third of all publicly-funded medical research in the UK. Our members invested over £1.6 billion in health research in the UK in 2016.
