Today, AMRC has published its annual infographic and research expenditure briefing, revealing a record £2.1 billion invested in UK medical research by its member charities in 2025.

The largest annual investment by AMRC member charities to date supported more than 27,000 researcher salaries, including over 7,700 early career researchers, and 1,110 NHS research posts.

This funding also enabled 193,853 people to take part in 1,127 clinical trials and studies, underlining the vital role charities play in driving medical breakthroughs and improving patient care.

Nicola Perrin, Chief Executive of AMRC, said: “This record investment reflects the extraordinary commitment of medical research charities to improving health and changing lives. Every pound invested helps drive discoveries, supports talented researchers and enables patients to take part in research that can lead to better treatments and care. These figures show that charities are not just funding research – they are helping power the UK's medical research ecosystem, from early discovery through to clinical studies in the NHS.”
