Today, AMRC has published our annual infographic and research expenditure briefing showcasing the collective impact of our member charities.

New figures show that in 2024, the medical research charity sector spent £1.6 billion on research in the UK despite a tough economic environment.

AMRC Chief Executive, Nicola Perrin, said: “AMRC is proud to represent almost 150 leading medical research charities. Our annual infographic showcases the collective impact of our members and their incredible support for UK research. This is often made possible by the generosity of the British public - medical and health charities are now the top cause to donate to in the UK.

“AMRC charities invested £1.6 billion in UK research in 2024, funding over 25,000 researcher salaries and 1,200 research posts within the NHS. They are also maximising opportunities for people to take part in research, funding more than 1,200 clinical trials and studies in 2024, involving over 180,000 people.

“But charities bring much more than money to the research ecosystem. Most importantly, their research improves lives and offers hope to patients.”
