This week, the Medical Science Sex and Gender Equity (MESSAGE) project launched a new framework setting standards for sex and gender equity and excellence in UK biomedical, health and care research. It introduces new recommendations for research funding and practice and explains how these will enhance the quality of UK science at each stage of the research pipeline.

AMRC has supported this project since its inception serving on the advisory group and working alongside eight of our charities and MESSAGE to help co-design the framework.

Dr Catriona Manville, Director of Research Policy, Association of Medical Research Charities said:

“This gold standard framework is a crucial step towards ensuring UK research supports care and treatment for as many people as possible.

“It’s been a system-wide endeavour. Only by working together can we drive a paradigm shift in how research is conducted and normalise the consideration of sex and gender.

“We look forward to helping our charities explore how they can implement this in their current and future processes.”
