The AMRC, the Academy of Medical Sciences, Alzheimer's Research UK, Arthritis Research UK, British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research UK, the Medical Research Council, and Wellcome together support the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Medical Research. The AMRC provides the secretariat support to the group.

About the APPG

Established in 2005, the group provides a forum and network for parliamentarians with an interest in medical research. It aims to facilitate collaboration between parliamentarians and medical research bodies and to provide up-to-date information on developments in medical research, including aspects of public health, the ethics of research and the implications of research findings for society.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Medical Research includes MPs and Peers from across the political parties. They are known as the officers of the APPG. The group’s current officers include the Chair, Chris Green MP (Conservative MP for Bolton West), Vice Chair, Daniel Zeichner MP (Labour MP for Cambridge), Treasurer, The Lord Willis of Knaresborough (Liberal Democrats), and Secretary, The Lord Turnberg of Cheadle (Labour).

The APPG on Medical Research is listed in Parliament's register of all-party parliamentary groups here. The group’s terms of reference can be found here

Costs incurred for the group's coordination and meetings are split between each supporting member.

If you have any ideas for topics the group should look at or would like further information about the group's activities, please contact the AMRC's public affairs officer, Rohan Bundell.

Our activity

Income and Expenditure Statements

Events & Materials

The APPG on Medical Research must hold an AGM during each session of parliament. The meeting requires a financial statement for the previous reporting year to be approved and a proposal for forthcoming events to be discussed and agreed upon. If the reporting year is the first of a new parliament, it also requires a formal election of the group’s officers. These documents detail the minutes of past AGMs.

Income and expenditure statements

For each reporting year, the APPG on Medical Research must produce a financial statement that details its income and expenditure. This statement must be approved by the Chair and other officers of the group at the AGM. The statements below are listed by calendar year and correspond to the AGMs listed above.

Events & materials

The APPG on Medical Research holds approximately three events each year, often working alongside other APPGs and partners in industry. For each event that the APPG on Medical Research holds, a range of resources and materials may be created. For example, briefing documents and infographics. The events and their accompanying materials are listed below by calendar year.
