Last week, the Medical Research Council (MRC) announced to AMRC members who applied for the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) Medical Research Charity Early-Career Researcher Support Fund 2021-22 a change to the process for administering the funding. The funding will now be paid from the MRC directly to each member charity, rather than to the universities hosting nominated researchers, a welcome streamlining of the payment process. They also confirmed that all charities who submitted to the scheme will receive some funding.

A draft memorandum of understanding was shared with relevant members ahead of a final version, which will detail the precise amount each charity will receive, to be shared by 31 January 2022. MRC are currently conducting due diligence checks on nominated researchers whilst BEIS continue to review the proposed distribution of funding between charities based on the value and volume of applications. MRC has asked any concerns or questions to be directed to [email protected].
