In response to Labour's 'Medicines for the many' document, Aisling Burnand MBE, Chief Executive of the AMRC, said:

"The UK has a world-leading and vibrant life sciences sector that enhances knowledge and understanding of disease and ill-health and develops innovations that save and improve lives. The strength of the UK life sciences sector lies in its unique diversity, which comprises of funding from public bodies, medical research charities, industry and the NHS and enables collaborations that deliver significant benefits for patients.

"Medical research charities want patients to benefit from research by being able to access new innovations in the NHS. We want to be part of a national debate on improving access to treatments on the NHS. However, the proposals set out on intellectual property and licencing would put at risk our world-leading medical research sector."
