About AMRC

The Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) is the national membership organisation for the health and medical research charity world, influencing the policy and research environments by harnessing the collective strengths of our members, to demonstrate the sector’s positive impact on health and wellbeing.

We work with a range of opinion formers in government, parliament, industry and academia, to ensure the best possible environment for health and medical research charities in the UK, so patients benefit from the fruits of research.

About the role

You will be part of a small but highly influential policy and public affairs team working at the heart of the medical research community. Reporting to the Director of Policy & Public Affairs, you will be responsible for developing policy positions and strong working relationships with key stakeholders in the environment. You will lead and develop medical research charity sector policy by working with colleagues across the organisation and engage with AMRC member charities. Key areas of focus are likely to include the research funding, Brexit and the clinical research environment. You will have line management responsibility for two staff but will work across the Policy & Public Affairs (PPA) and wider AMRC team to manage and lead tasks.

About you

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. You will be highly organised, with ability for grasping and communicating complex issues clearly. You’ll need to be self-disciplined, adaptable and able to thrive in a busy environment with lots of challenges and tight deadlines. Strong experience and understanding of the medical research policy in the UK and role of medical research charities are desirable.

This job may suit someone with experience of working in a science, biomedical/clinical research or health policy environment. The role is critical and influential within the medical research charity community.
