The Association of Medical Research Charities is today publishing a statement of intent highlighting the importance of the consideration of sex and gender at every stage to deliver high-quality, reproducible and inclusive biomedical, health and care research. In a major turning point for the UK medical research sector, we have joined with 28 other organisations from across the UK medical research sector, including the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), Medical Research Council (MRC), National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and several AMRC members to publish this statement. This is part of the Medical Science Sex and Gender Equity (MESSAGE) project, which aims to produce a UK funder policy. AMRC is on the steering group.

AMRC's Director of Research Policy, Dr Catriona Manville said:

"We believe actively taking account of sex and gender when doing research will lead to improved outcomes for more patients. That’s why we’re part of the 29 organisations across the UK medical research sector that have today published a statement of intent and will continue collaborating to design a policy framework that's relevant to the diversity of our membership."
