Spending announcements indicate health and research high on government agenda Government has announced the spending commitments for health and research, with £1.8 billion going towards vital infrastructure upgrades within the NHS. This is in addition to the £20 billion by 2023/24 investment promised under Theresa May’s government. The Secretary of State for Health & Social Care, Matt Hancock MP, also announced a £250 million investment in the creation of an NHS Artificial Intelligence (AI) laboratory. The AI lab will sit within NHSX and work in partnership with the Accelerated Access Collaborative, of which AMRC is a member. Bringing together academics, technology specialists and industry, the lab follows the ambitions for AI outlined in the NHS Long-Term Plan that aim to transform patient care in the health service, as well as accelerating the discovery of new treatments.
