In the first in a series of speeches on how he believes the UK can best achieve its ambition to invest 2.4% of GDP in R&D by 2027, the Science Minister has argued that a strong pipeline of research talent is vital to meeting the Government’s commitment.

Chris Skidmore MP set out that a 50% increase in the total number of researchers – an extra 260,000 – is urgently needed. During the speech the Minister also railed against the controversial use of non-disclosure agreements in universities, calling for an end to the practice of silencing staff after experiencing workplace bullying, discrimination or sexual misconduct.
