Spending on research in the UK and overseas

Research is international and medical research charities are focused on funding the highest quality science, wherever it is. The proportion of spend on research overseas and on capital projects varies year on year, but research in the UK consistently accounts for the majority of spend by charities collectively.

Spending on charitable activities

As well as funding research, many of our charities also support a range of other charitable activities such as care, support and providing education.

For the largest medical research charities, research funding makes up the greatest part of their charitable activities, and much of that is in the UK. For others, their focus includes welfare, support, care, education and information alongside investing in research.
