With the UK due to leave the EU in eight days on 29 March, Parliament has yet to approve a deal. The Prime Minister will ask for a short extension at today’s European Council meeting of EU leaders which she is likely going to get contingent on her deal being passed next week. If the deal is not passed, EU leaders are expected to hold a special Council meeting on 28 March and offer a longer extension to May.

AMRC continues to work with the Department of Health and Social Care and other key stakeholders to support the sector to develop contingency plans for a no-deal Brexit. DHSC has announced that they are continuing to work on comprehensive plans and are confident that if everyone – including suppliers, freight companies, international partners, and the health and care system - does what they need to do, the supply of medicines and medical products should be uninterrupted in the event of exiting the EU without a deal. AMRC continues to urge that a no-deal Brexit would have a damaging impacts on patients and medical research, despite comprehensive plans being in place.
