Pioneering treatments are to be fast-tracked into the NHS to ensure they reach patients quicker.

Today Health Minister Nicola Blackwood unveiled a roll-out of new improvements to the Accelerated Access Collaborative (ACC). It is designed to select the most promising new treatments, tests and medical devices at an early stage and steer them through the clinical development and regulatory approval process faster.

The ACC aims to reduce by four years the time it takes for treatments to get to patients in the UK, from the current 17 years from patent. It was set up in 2018 and AMRC's Chief Executive sits on the Board to represent the medical research charity sector and the patient communities that our members represent.

A new unit will be established in NHS England and NHS Improvement, led by Dr Sam Roberts as chief executive. AMRC will ensure that the views of medical research charities are represented and will be engaging with our members in due course.

Further information about the Accelerated Access Collaborative can be found in the Department of Health and Social Care news story.
