Earlier this week, Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced a new tech unit, NHSX. This organisation will be responsible for setting the national digital strategy, best practices for NHS technology and technological and data standards, as well as building world-class digital services to improve care and enable medical research. It will also develop digital training, champion skills and encourage innovation by making all source code open by default.

The creation of NHSX will be a joint venture between the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS England/NHS Improvement, taking over all of their work on digital policy, implementation and change. NHSX will also work closely with the Government Digital Service.
