Following the Prime Minister’s request for an extension to Article 50, the European Council has granted a long, flexible Brexit delay with a deadline on 31 October. If the UK ratifies the Withdrawal Agreement it will leave the EU on the first day of the following month. The extension has some conditions, such as an expression of good faith on the UK’s behalf not to frustrate any major decision-making and the obligation to hold European Parliamentary elections on 23 May if the UK remains a member at the time.

Parliament is currently on recess with the Civil Service scaling back their critical no-deal preparations. The Department of Health and Social Care has asked that all no-deal medicines supply measures (such as stockpiles, additional buffer stocks etc.) should remain in place but on hold until further guidance is available.
