Lord Prior of Brampton has been named as the Government’s preferred candidate to become the new Chair of NHS England. The Health & Social Care Committee recommended his appointment, subject to his resigning of the Conservative Party whip to maintain independence from party political influences. Lord Prior would succeed Sir Malcolm Grant, who has served as Chair of NHS England since 2011.

Elsewhere, at the recent annual NHS Expo, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Matt Hancock MP made several announcements. These included: a £200 million investment to transform a group of NHS trusts into internationally recognised centres for technological and digital innovation; a pilot of the new NHS app in five areas next month before being rolled-out nationally in December; and the creation of a new HealthTech Advisory Board, to be chaired by Dr Ben Goldacre.
