The Government has announced £50 million of funding towards the creation of 5 technology centres across the UK that will specialise in using artificial intelligence (AI) and other digital technologies to improve patient outcomes. The centres will be based in universities and NHS facilities, and bring together doctors, businesses and academics to develop products that will improve early diagnosis of disease by enhanced detection of abnormalities.

The products developed at the new centres will offer more personalised treatment for patients while freeing up doctors to spend more time caring for patients. Funded through the Government’s flagship Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund via UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the centres are expected to be up and running during 2019.
