Health Data Research UK has announced a £37.5 million investment in new Digital Innovation Hubs across the UK, taking forward a key recommendation from the Life Sciences Industrial Strategy.

Funded through the second wave of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, the new hubs will create secure environments within which to link regional health and care data with biomedical data. Access to this data will pave the way for academics, NHS researchers and industry innovators to develop novel drugs and health devices.

The investment will create between three and five hubs across the UK over the next three years, with the programme launching in Autumn 2018. Each hub will store data for research and innovation from regions covering 3-5 million people, facilitating analysis of data from GP practices, hospitals, social and community care providers alongside genetic and biomedical data, as well as other, unrelated datasets.
