When it takes an average of 17 years to develop an idea into a publicly available medical product, how can medical research charities show the difference they make?

To help our members demonstrate their impact AMRC has published Making a difference: Impact report 2017 analysing data from 5,287 research awards, funded by 40 of our members using Researchfish, across five areas:

  • Generating new knowledge
  • Translating research ideas into new products and services
  • Creating evidence that will influence policy or other stakeholders
  • Developing the human capacity to do research
  • Stimulating further research via new funding or partnerships

Case studies featured in the report highlight the benefits charity-funded research brings to patients; from publishing work that gives researchers worldwide a new target for treatment development to instigating new guidance that will improve the safety of patients.

Without the Medical Research Council (MRC)'s financial support it would not have been possible for our members to provide this level of data over the last four years to give us this valuable insight. We are extremely grateful for their support.

The report is optimised for online viewing, so we would strongly advise you to read the web-based version; however, if necessary you can download this PDF version
