The Government has published its long-awaited Brexit White Paper, setting out its vision for the future relationship between the UK and the EU. It will provide the basis for negotiations going forward and broadly aligns with the priorities that AMRC has been calling for on behalf of the sector.

The Paper proposes a role for the UK in the European Medicines Agency and sets out plans for future collaboration on science and innovation. On future mobility arrangements, it outlines that the UK will seek reciprocal arrangements consistent with the ending of free movement. Following the Paper’s publication, the Prime Minister announced that she will assume personal responsibility for leading the negotiations, with the new Secretary of State, Dominic Raab MP, deputising for her.

The Brexit Health Alliance – the grouping of NHS, medical research, industry, patients and public health organisations in which AMRC represents the medical research charity sector – released a statement that welcomed the ambitions set out by the Paper but urged that patients in the UK and Europe need to know that they will get their drugs on time and that vital medical research will not be disrupted.
