On Wednesday 4 September we published a Spotlight on Rare Diseases infographic to highlight the incredible work AMRC charities are doing to make a difference for those affected by rare diseases in the UK.

3.5 million people in the UK will be affected by a rare disease during their lives but 67 AMRC member charities are working hard to deliver positive change for these people.

With 29% of rare disease grants awarded by our member charities funded in collaboration with other organisations it is clear that collaboration is key to delivering benefits to rare disease patients sooner.

What’s more, charities were found to be the main partner for co-funding rare disease research with our member charities, for other health areas it’s usually public bodies. This further demonstrates the vital role medical research charities play in rare disease research.
