AMRC’s statement on the Government’s response to the Accelerated Access Review Published: 3 November 2017 Commenting on the Government’s response to the Accelerated Access Review, Aisling Burnand MBE, chief executive of the Association of Medical Research Charities said: “Patients want faster access to new treatments and technologies. The Accelerated Access Review set out recommendations for this. Now that the Government has responded we urge them to begin implementation as soon as possible. We will be monitoring progress to ensure this scheme delivers for patients. If action lives up to the promise of the words in this report, we can look forward to seeing a step change in access by this time next year." “We welcome the establishment of the Accelerated Access Collaborative and are encouraged that both new and repurposed medicines will be included when making decisions on which products should be granted entry to the Accelerated Access Pathway." “These recommendations have been a step in the right direction in supporting the UK’s position as a leader in the life sciences, as we prepare to leave the European Union. We need to continue to work together to ensure the UK remains not only a great place to do research, but also enables patients fast and effective access in the NHS to the best technologies as they emerge. Accelerated access is now more vital than ever to ensure patients do not miss out."
