Commenting on the announcement of a new package of Government support worth up to £86 million to help innovative UK businesses develop real world medical breakthroughs that can be used across the NHS, Aisling Burnand MBE, chief executive of the Association of Medical Research Charities said:

“Digital technologies have the potential to revolutionise health care and deliver transformative new treatments for patients. The announcement of this package of support is a welcome sign from Government that they are committed to ensuring that world-leading innovation is translated into life-changing treatments for patients as soon as possible.

“Medical research charities are similarly committed and are increasingly working to harness the potential of digital technology. In order to ensure maximum effectiveness, this new package of support must recognise the breadth of the life sciences sector and ensure that the assets within the medical research charity community can be utilised for maximum patient benefit.

“We welcome the Government’s ambition to enable patients to access innovative and life-changing treatments as fast as possible. Action is now needed to make this a reality and ensure that patient access to innovation is improved in the NHS.”
