Pioneering Partnerships 2019: Putting patients first

AMRC/ABPI/NIHR Joint conference

This  conference  aims  to  inspire and  inform the  sector  to  better  establish  links  with  experts  by experience to create a more inclusive and relevant research environment for patients and the public. Through  asking  fundamental  questions  of, and  exploring  case  studies from, those who  have pushed boundaries and developed new ways of partnering, this conference will promote the benefits of collaboration. Patients  have  a  crucial  role  in  medical  research,  not  only  as  participants  but  as  active collaborators. From generating research questions and designing clinical trials, to participating in  complex  research  studies  and  developing  personalised  interventions; patients  enrich  [the quality and real-world relevance of] medical research. This conference will promote the role of patients in medical research by showcasing examples of patient involvement. Sessions will focus on patient, carer and public experience and examples of good practice from across  the  sector and will  explore themes  such  as patient  involvement  in  clinical  trials and pioneering partnerships. The  conference  will explore how the ABPI’s recently updated Code of Practice can  support partnerships. The  conference  will  also  investigate the  challenges  facing  medical  research  today,  including complex innovative design clinical trials and digital technology in healthcare.
