Research funding in universities

AMRC member charities fund significant amounts of research in UK universities.  In 2006/07*, AMRC members spent over £791M on medical and health research in the UK and approximately three quarters of this funding was awarded to universities.

AMRC has developed policies on university funding which can be found in the policy section.

The UK government has acknowledged the important and integral role that charities play in research by introducing a new stream of funding for universities in England to use to underpin eligible charitable funding.  Further details are provided on the Charity Research Support Fund (CRSF) page in this section.
