We believe that peer review is at the heart of excellent medical research.
One of our membership criteria is that charities use peer review, and it is important that we are able to confirm that our members work to best practice.
We audit members’ peer review processes every five years according to AMRC’s principles of peer review: accountability, balance, independence, rotation and impartiality.
2011 audit
A full report of the 2011 audit findings is available to download.
One hundred and twenty four charities were eligible to take part in the audit.
All charities received individual feedback.
The charities that met the all the principles were awarded a certificate of best practice and are entitled to display the AMRC peer review audit logo.
Charities with minor problems in any of the five areas of peer review were offered advice on how to revise their processes to bring them into line with AMRC’s principles.
The next full audit will be in 2015. We will carry out a mid-point review in 2013, focusing on the charities that failed to meet more than two of the principles in the 2011 audit, alongside a small representative sample of other charities.
