AMRC Reaction to Gordon Brown's Announcement of a Free Vote on Sections of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill

Simon Denegri, Chief Executive of AMRC, issued the following comment on the decision by Gordon Brown to give Labour MPs a free vote on controversial elements of the HFE Bill:

“This is an important decision by the PM which removes the issue of whether or not there will be a free vote from becoming an unhelpful distraction from the real debate that needs to happen about the issues covered by the Bill. We hope that that debate can now take place in a reasoned and measured way, and will continue to urge MPs to support the provisions on medical research as already outlined in our letter to them.”
