Response to Publication of Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill
AMRC has been working with its member charities, and through this their patient partners, as well as scientists, policymakers and other stakeholders to help shape the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill, published on Friday. This Bill will ensure regulation is fit for purpose, help maintain the UK's position as a world leader in research and updates current regulation in light of developments in technology and society's attitudes. The Bill should now move through the House of Lords, then the Commons, and receive Royal Assent, and is expected to be in force from early 2009. It should allow potentially life-saving medical research to proceed within a framework of strict regulation and control, and we welcome this.
