The Office for Life Sciences has published an update on progress made over the last two years with the ambitions from the 2017 Life Sciences Industrial strategy.

In the area of clinical trials, the Experimental Cancer Medicine Centres have published work – developed alongside patients, charities and industry – to provide guidance on the design and delivery of complex, innovative trial design.

In genomics, news was shared on the recent launch of the Accelerating Detection of Disease programme. This joint partnership between charities, the NHS and industry has created a platform for the development of early diagnostics through the use of polygenic risk score assessments and personalised feedback to patients.

An update was provided on the £200 million joint government, charity and industry partnership to sequence 500,000 UK Biobank participants over the next four years. A target of sequencing 50,000 people by Spring 2020 is reported as on-track.
