AMRC is a registered charity and the membership organisation of the UK’s leading medical and health research charities.
AMRC membership is now widely accepted as a ‘mark of quality’ by universities, government, other funders and research organisations.
Through support, leadership and influence, the Association’s aim is to help our members flourish in a changing external environment.
AMRC membership is an important consideration for many grant-making and public bodies in determining whether research funding from a charity is eligible for support to cover indirect costs.
Support
Our primary aim is to support members in their day-to day research funding activities.
Through AMRC, members gain access to a ‘network’ of other research charities, an extensive programme of development events and member workshops as well as tailored one-to-one operational guidance & best practice support.
Our expert knowledge of changes and trends in the research environment and science policy helps members plan ahead and develop appropriate research strategies. As a member you will also have access to up-to-date information with insight, through our website, e-bulletins and other advice and support services on difficult or controversial issues.
Leadership
AMRC is recognised as establishing sector-wide standards for the way in which medical research charities operate, from implementing peer review to encouraging excellence in communications through our biennial Science Communication Awards.
Recent activities include major programmes of work on patient & public involvement in research and assisting charities in working with industry.
By becoming a member you will be seen as making a demonstrable commitment to working to the highest standards of practice and policy.
Influence
With and for our members, we are viewed as the highly influential voice of the sector, heard by other organisations involved in medical research and funding, government, and the general public.
AMRC represents its members on a wide range of public and other bodies important in the development of science policy and practice.
We also provide the secretariat for the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Medical Research, and act as a focal point for members to numerous consultations and surveys, either responding for the sector or guiding individual charity’s in their response.
