About one in every 400 people suffers from the inflammatory bowel conditions, Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn's Disease; Crohn's & Colitis UK was founded in 1979 by patients, relatives and health professionals to offer support and welfare through individual contacts and local groups and to raise funds to encourage more research into these conditions.

Members of the Awards Committee score all applications individually and two external referees' views are sought.
Research Strategy
Crohn's & Colitis UK aims to fund the best quality research across any of the current areas of investigation. There are two separate Awards Committees, one for traditional medical research and the other for investigation of the social and psychological problems of living with an ongoing, unpredictable and distressing illness.
Collaborations
Crohn's & Colitis UK has a joint fellowship award with CORE (formerly the Digestive Disorders Foundation).
