Medical research charities are ultimately focused on developing treatments and cures to benefit patients.
Cancer Research UK has teamed up with the pharmaceutical industry to cover the early development costs of promising cancer agents and ensure clinical development of these drugs into potential treatments for patients isn’t shelved due to high costs.
Charity funded research often goes on to inform changes in practice and the development of clinical guidelines.
Almost a third of the fellows funded by Action Medical Research reported that findings from their research had been incorporated into clinical guidelines or guidance to improve patient care.
