AMRC is a registered charity and is governed by its Memorandum and Articles of Association (M&A). The association modernised its constitution in 2008, in line with the Charities and Companies Acts of 2006, and to make our governance more transparent to our members.
Governance
AMRC is governed by an Executive Council.
Eight members of the council are elected or nominated and ratified by AMRC members. Annual elections take place shortly before the AGM and these council members can serve up to two terms of office of three years.
Executive Council can appoint up to four co-opted members for two terms of office of three years.
The chair of the association is appointed by Executive Council. They are a co-opted member of council.
In addition, council meetings are attended by an observer nominated by the Academy of Medical Sciences and our scientific adviser, Lord Turnberg.
Executive Council meets five times a year; all new council members receive a formal induction.
The association’s activities are supported by a small team based in central London.
